Tirana is the capital and largest city of the Republic
of Albania. It was founded in 1614 by Sulejman Pasha and became Albania's
capital city in 1920. The city is the administrative, cultural, academic,
and industrial center of the country.
Albania
is located in the western part of the Balkan peninsula bordering the former
Yugoslavia (Serbia-Montenegro) and Kosova in the north and the east. It
has access to the Adriatic and Ionian Seas in the west. From the Strait
of Otranto, Albania is less than 100 km from Italy. The country covers
a total of 28,000 squared kilometers and has a population of 3.3 million.
